Do you need a Chamber of Commerce number to sell tickets through Eventix?

We always want to make it as easy as possible for organisers to get their ticket sales started. In this spirit, we wanted to point out that organisers do not necessarily need to register with the Chamber of Commerce. As such, anyone can get their ticket sales off to a running start without any hassle. However, there are some caveats involved with this, which we’ll go through in this blog, so you can get started as quickly and as well-informed as possible.

Do you need a Chamber of Commerce number to sell tickets through Eventix?

First of all, it’s important that you’re aware that without a Chamber of Commerce number, you can only sell tickets through Eventix if you are an individual. As a company, you will always need to provide a Chamber of Commerce number.

Before you start selling tickets as a private individual, we always recommend that you check whether you happen to meet the criteria of an entrepreneur. If you do qualify as an entrepreneur, this could mean that you will experience problems when the tax authorities check your accounts. Below you can read what the requirements for an entrepreneur are:

  • You provide services and/or products.
  • You charge more than the purchasing price: a (commercial) fee or hourly rate from which you earn money.
  • You do business with people other than just your friends or family, and you also compete with entrepreneurs who sell the same or similar services or products.

If your situation corresponds to the criteria mentioned above, then you can use the questions below to check whether you are definitely an entrepreneur.

Control questions:

  • Do you invest money and/or time in starting or growing your company?
  • Do you regularly work in your own company, and is it not a one-off job?
  • Will you be working for more than one client?
  • Do you decide when and how you do your work?

If you can't answer all of these questions with a 'yes', then you probably do not qualify as an entrepreneur, and you probably do not need to register with the Chamber of Commerce.

Is selling tickets your only source of income? Then you will earn up to 8450 euros tax-free. If you earn more than this amount, which is certainly possible, it is often more beneficial to start a company and to register with the tax authorities. You can then make use of the profit exemption for Small and Medium Enterprises and possibly the entrepreneur and starter deduction.

If you only work for family and friends and not at retail prices? Then it isn’t advisable to adopt a legal form, and instead, report this income as earnings from other work.

If you still have questions about starting a business, or if you’re unsure whether you meet one or more of the criteria, please contact the Chamber of Commerce via 088 585 1585 or visit www.kvk.nl for more information.
